I was two when this came out and I've always liked it. I'm a big 90s movie guy in general.
I'm curious what kind of appeal this movie had when it was in theaters. Were the theaters packed? What were people saying about it when it had just released?
I wish I could have experienced more 80s and 90s movies before all the CGI/3d stuff hit the scene. There's something about them that just makes me appreciate them more. Feels more real than the CGI/3d stuff we have to deal with nowadays

It was the 2nd highest grossing film of the year in North America (after
      Terminator 2
), but I believe it might have had more pop culture heat thanks in no small part to "(Everything I do) I do it for you", which
      dominated
      the charts that Summer.
This was a time before the internet had fractured pop culture, and a movie like this could dominate the landscape of a Summer rather than being white hot one minute and forgotten the next. It was definitely
      the
popcorn movie that year. Lots of buzz about Alan Rickman's performance. The audience I saw it with the first time were delighted, laughing and cheering at all the right moments.

It had a really great teaser trailer that just showed an arrow being fired from the arrows point of view. I remember that getting everyone excited. I saw it opening night in a sold out show. The audience loved it.

Yeah, as I recall, that arrow POV shot (done specially for the trailer) got such a strong reaction that they inserted it into the movie.

I was 13 when it came out so I can only speak from a teenager's point of view but my friends and I really liked it. My friends all crushed on Christian Slater but I preferred that wicked sheriff. (RIP Alan Rickman.) There were action figures I had and the soundtrack was very good, and the Bryan Adams song DOMINATED the radio that summer. It was pretty close to a summer blockbuster that people soon forgot about, but to some of us it is still a favorite movie. Hope this helps. 🙂

I saw it four times with different people. We all loved it. The theater was packed. It remains my fave KC movie. KC is the best Robin Hood ever too.

As a 12 or 13 year old girl at the time this came out, I can say with authority that it was the beep according to the majority of my middle school.

I saw this movie twelve times in the theater when it came out. It had been two years since my hero Indiana Jones rode off into the sunset, and I was starving for a big screen adventure. They'd kind of sold PRINCE OF THIEVES as an heir to the Indy-style swashbuckler, and it had all the action and humor I wanted in a movie at that point. I also saw TERMINATOR 2 twelve times, that summer. I think the only movies I've seen in theaters more times than that were JURASSIC PARK and PULP FICTION. The early '90s were definitely a peak time for me for movie-going.
