Sex scene?

Don't over-think it. It was just a violent, uncomfortable sex scene that matches her mood and spotlights the crazy world they are both in. Nothing really too deep or meaningful. Just crazy.

They didn't have anal sex, where did you get that?
I know there are a lot of sexually inexperience people on this board but lots of people do have regular vaginal sex with the guy coming from behind. Anal sex requires lots of lubrication and a bit of time to get going, so you don't just flip someone over and jab away. It doesn't work that way. -

IMO this scene should have never been in the movie. I don't think this would ever happen in real life. I have been around some rather heavy users and just can't buy it. I also think that they would have been sure to always have some around.

Yeah, but the two characters also dug one another a lot. There was a lot of sexual tension and they were just pretty tore up, so they made sloppy. I'm not sure that it was forced as much as just very non-romantic. They probably shouldn't have acted that way in a professional sense mainly, but they were pretty far gone at that point. It was just very unromantic sex. Also, I'm not convinced that it was anal sex.
Can someone sort of summarize what is in the director's commentary, because I would to know and don't plan on buying a new addition of thsi movie anytime soon. -

yea, im not quite convinvced it was anal sex either. unless thats what the director stated in the commentary. how else u gonna know that? i looked at the scene as they had been doing drugs so hard now that the drugs had taken over their lives to a point where like sex was put on the backburner. and they prolly hadnt had sex in a long time either. and in that particular scene, she was fiending for the drugs so bad, but didnt have anymore and needed something to relieve the aching for it. and getting laid was prolly the next best thing, and they both realized it. i thought the scene was good and fit right into the film.

I think that scene is one of the saddest and most hopeless in the film, and I thought it was brilliantly played and conveyed the desperation for escape that the characters were feeling. In the years since I've seen this (saw it a few times in high school), my memory has been that it was a desperate attempt to distract themselves from the pain of withdrawl, and was a reflection of their inner termoil as narcs - they were in a very intimate relationship with one another that was unavoidably pathological, based as it was on pretending to be other people. The sex relieved the pain in the moment, but was a chilling reminder that their physical needs are running their lives at the expense of their dignity.

Not all sex where the man is behind the woman is anal.
I thought the sex scene fit into the movie. They were both so consumed by drugs they weren't thinking clearly. And it shows how their personalities changed. In the beginning of the movie Jim and Kris "made love" and as the drugs consumed their minds it completely changed their personalities and behaviors. I mean her depseration od scouring the carpet looking for remnants of any heroin showed her desperation to "feel better". She wanted anything at that moment to ease her pain which is why after Jim said he didn't have anything to calm her down she started sobbing and then kissing him going lower and lower. He first told her to stop but then they both were crazed and basically "fked". It just shows how drugs changed them completely. Which is why then once they were both clean towards the end she was lovingly washing his hair in the bathtub and how she was lying in his arms in the trailer before he was killed. -

i agree w/ your assessment that a scene as such maybe unnecessary. although i haven't watched the movie yet. i'm planning on taping it to view on my long train ride to chicago so checked the imdb for reviews. so far-so good -
