Are we all talking about the same movie? the music made this movie even better then it already was. that music is awesome. Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton- great. I love Wang Dang doodle in the beginning- the whole thing.

An ABB song would have been great-Whipping Post. I think the music was really good in this movie and that was my era. I especially enjoyed the Johnny Winter version of Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo-perfection!

This movie was filmed in 90/91 and was supposed to take place in 74. What other music could they have used here, did you expect grunge or pop? You might not be a fan of the music from that era but this was exactly what they should have used. Personally I thought the music was perfect.

There were basically two types of music played in bars in the 70's. Blues and disco.
Disco was never big in redneck or biker bars, although it would have been very entertaining to watch what would have happened if somebody tried. -

I think you missed the point on so many levels. Weather or not you appreciate the films music from the actual historic perspective of the storyline or not, is sort of irrelevant. As far as the time period of the screenplay, I feel the music is absolutely spot on. The songs and the artists who wrote them are and/or were at the forefront of the music business, and therefore indicative of the pop culture of the time. Very well done!

I don't get it. If Oliver Stone does it then it's artistic genius, but here, using music from the era is cheesy? This is a movie dealing with the drug culture of the time, you think they would have been listening to Mozart? Or how about a Grateful Dead soundtrack? This is one of my favorite flicks of all time and I couldn't see the soundtrack any other way AND I was about 15 when this was released. Bridge Of Sighs was perfect for the closing scene. Allmans would have been cool too but then that might have stepped over the line into cheese territory when you have an Allman in the film.

I can't help but notice that the OP has not said a word to support his/her original statement or rebut anyone's support of the music in this film. I am watching the movie right now, and I used to own the soundtrack, and I have yet to hear a single misplaced note. As a matter of fact, I think this was one of the first soundtracks I ever bought on CD.
Let us celebrate this new arrangement with the adding of chocolate to milk. -
