Permanent Midnight (1998) is a pretty intense film.
Ben Stiller plays a guy with a $6,000 a week heroin habit.
When he squirts the blood-filled syringe on the bathroom ceiling it is so disturbing.

CANDY, the Heath Ledger/Abby Cornish/Geoffrey Rush film, is worth a look.

No, I'm afraid Pi (1998, Darren Aronofsky) would not qualify. Although Max Cohen does take drugs and reports on his previous drug use. His drug use albeit non-prescription, is an attempt to medicate himself. Unfortunately non of his drug experiments help to relieve the symptoms of his affliction. There is however no report on, or portrayal or, any other effects these drug are having on him. It is certainly a good movie, but a drug movie it is not, it's more of a A Beautiful Mind meets The DaVinci Code, which would have it qualify as a mind-trip, not a drug-trip

                          In alphabetical order:
                          Another Day in Paradise (1998)
                          Blueberry (2004)
Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (1981)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
                          Groove (2000)
Leaving Las Vegas (1995) (although that's alcohol)
                          Naked Lunch (1991)
                          Round Midnight (1986)
                          Rush (1991)
                          "Twin Peaks" (1990) [TV-Series 1990-1991]*

                          • Drugs do feature in this series, but it was not one of the most important elements. The whole series however has the bewildering look/feel to it of a drug induced vision, rather than resorting to the off the wall visual elements of Blueberry or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, David Lynch in Twin Peaks subtly sways his audiences perception of reality to a new deviant plane, much like David Cronenberg does in Naked Lunch.

                                In no particular order:
                                Trainspotting
                                Requiem
                                Sid and Nancy
                                Party Monster
                                Fear and Loathing
                                Drugstore Cowboy
                                Pink Floyd the wall
                                Rush
Leaving Las Vegas (although, more of an alcoholism movie than drugs)
Lucky Girl (although, more of a gambling addiction movie)
I need to see some of these other onesgo, salton sea, and others not mentioned on my list
Never touch the stuff (hard drugs), but these movies really fascinate me.
                                I wonder why.
Maybe it's a constant reminder of how precarious our lives are, and the slightest slip can make it all unravel and go to hell really, really quickly.

I think Apocalypse Now! qualifies (it's a big bad trip), also has anyone seen Pusher? I think it's a Danish movie.
Yeah, Requiem for a Dream almost makes most drug movies unneccessary.
