Do they really do that in real life? It seems like the police would tell them that even if the dealer asks you to do some you have to say no. Because they are police too.

they really did it in the movie, so that is all that matters. Life is a bit more of a shade of gray than black and white, especially undercover police work I would think.

They also are NOT required to identify themselves as a police officer if they are asked if they are undercover.

If you have time read the book. Undercover cops are not supposed to actually do drugs. They are supposed to simulate using them, but it is difficult if not impossible to do when on a drug buy.
