This comes from an intense debate between a friend and I, who pointed out that it might have been staged, by Bob, in the vein of a "radical new therapy" to help Dr. Leo. I'm not convinced. Thoughts?

Well, your friend is logical in assuming this, because I've often considered it myself. It really leaves it as open for the viewer to decideunless of course there are deleted scenes I have not seen.
