This was followed by House of Style in 1989, Liquid Television in 1991, The Real World in 1992 and Beavis and Butt-Head in '93 (the latter of which featured some music videos, albeit with MST3K-style commentary by the title characters). By the late '90s the damage was already done (Celebrity Deathmatch and Daria debuted in 1998 and '97, respectively).

Yes.
Also when they started airing Speed Racer and The Monkees and started Yo MTV Raps.
Some may also argue it went downhill when they showed Michael Jackson videos every hour and it became Michael Jackson TV.
The first year was of MTV was what defined the channel. Because it was successful too many rich SOBs wanted a part of it and paid big money to promote their ****.

I'd say Beavis and Butthead, Daria and Liquid Television fit the demographic better than The Real World.
I had no problem with these three shows being on at all.
The over reliance on shows, and ones that were terrible, was an issue though.
I switched over to VH1 tbh.
