No Mate! She's for real, go to Yachtworld, look up 1976 Formosa Ketch, She's in Costa Rica, and the asking price is $195,000. But, remember all the interior shots seen in the film were on a set.
          Cheers

it's actually in Kemah, TX. It's at the same marina our boat is at. The Kemah Boardwalk. We see it there all the time.

I'm not sure you're seeing the actual boat from the movie in Kemah, but maybe another 1976 Formosa Ketch. Or, maybe they made port in Texas for a while and took it back home to Costa Rica. I went to Yacht world and looked it up, and the boat they sailed in the movie (not the sets, of course - that made the cabin look HUGE) is indeed still for sale. Current asking price is at $165,000, and she is located in Costa Rica.
              Best of luck to you!
              Erin

Apparently there were three different boats used in the movie and at least one of them is located in Kemah, Texas. Or was located there.
Here are some links with pictures and more information.

Thanks for posting those. I wonder if the interior shots were actually filmed inside another boat, or a cutaway stage versionby the time you get the cast inside, film crew, etc..got to get tight even given the length & beam of it.

No problem at all, goofingoff47. I do know the master bedroom could not have been filmed inside the real boat because if you look carefully, notice the three windows of the bedroom on the transom of the boat and how they look on the inside, and then how they look from the outside. You'll see on the interior shots there is too much room between the outside windows and the walls, compared to the exterior boat shots, like this:
                    [-# # #-] on the inside
                    [-# # #-] on the outside
It's like in Star Trek The Original Series how the Galileo Shuttle craft had plenty of headroom on the interior shots, but on the exterior shots, the crew had to duck to enter the craft because it was so short on the outside.

The first poster is correct. The "Wanderer", which is a Formosa 48, located in Kemah, Texas (Clear Lake/Galveston Bay) is in fact one of the sailboats used in the movie "Captain Ron". I know this boat's history well, including its use in filming the movie, it's subsequent sale in Florida after the movie, and have sailed it three times in years past. Hope this helps.

Actually, its a 51 ft Formosa ketch, berthed in Costa Rica. I know the owner, who as we speak, is sailing it from costa rica up to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
I was going to crew for him, but decided not to risk my life coastal cruising the coast of Columbia.
Maybe the conflicting posts indicate that several boats were used in the filming of the movie(which is usually the case, with movie boats, cars, etc).
                        Peace!
