was the real christopher columbus a hero or villian?why? what do u think?

the real christopher columbus was a human being that used the technology of the day to sail halfway around the world and who also managed to oversee the murder and rape of hundreds of other humans and sell countless others into slavery, all while making a nice profit for himself and earning administrative authority.
all in all not unlike many people alive today. hero or villain? well i would hate to be responsible for people's suffering on that large of a scale -

This was actually a question we had to answer for my world history class. I would say anyone involved with rape, murder and slavery was a villain, but he wasn't really much different from most others of his time. Only judged by current moral standards does he seem worse.
