Feels like a Tales from the Crypt episode

I'm currently re-watching the film and I feel the same way as well. The surrealist feel and over the top plot and characters make it fit in right with Tales From the Crypt, as well as the ending (which was very similar to 'Cutting Cards' episode).
And yes, Zemeckis was producer out of several.

I just watched a trailer that played the Crypt theme in the beginning so it's funny to come here and see this posted. This movie definitely could have been an episode of TftC. It seems like it was one movie that was properly adapted from an episode of a tv show. Funny how that happens sometimes.
Rest in Peace Russell Meansyour legacy and impact will live on. -

I actually went on here just to see if anyone else thought this. To me everything about this movie screams Tales from the Crypt. From the cartoon style and revenge driven plot with the insanely narcisistic characters and the overall morbidity of the tale, to the gothic settings in that surreal over-the-top Hollywood world of TFTC. Not to mention the morality tale ending.
I was almost surprised not to see the crypt keeper at the end treating us kiddies to some horrible puns. -

Zemeckis actually directed the Tales From the Crypt, along with this.

Now that you mention it, it does feel like a Crypt episode. In a similar vein, there was a Crypt episode 'Til Death where a land owner used too much of a potion to steal the love of a rich woman. In his greed, he murders her only to discover she and her love for him can't die though her body continues to wither post mortem.

I've always wondered that, too. I wonder if maybe this was a test film before they got the green-light to do "Demon Knight" and "Bordello of Blood"? You could easily re-cut this film with a Crypt Keeper intro and outro.

As others have mentioned, Robert Zemeckis, this film's director, produced and directed many episodes of TFTC during its run which would explain why this film has the plot and the feel of TFTC. It's contained with dark humor, eeriness, surrealism, and morals. In a similar manner to the show and the original EC Comics from the 50s. I got the chance to see the movie on HBO several times last year and it was very apparent that it did feel like an extended episode of TFTC.
By the way, in case anyone's interested, I made a list on this site that I'm still working on about films that look, feel, or seem like an episode of
Tales From The Crypt
. And this film is the first entry on the list. I'm still sort of working on the Cryptkeeper dialogue for this film as well as many of the other entries on the list. I created the list last year on Halloween and I'm still working on it. Still, feel free to check it out if you guys want to.
