Way ahead its time MASTERPIECE

If you're being serious, how is it even remotely similar to Adam Sandler's style of comedy? This movie is a "black comedy," while Sandler does mostly slapstick(ish) and character humor and black comedies were popular long before this movie came out, so I wouldn't call it innovative either. It's a great movie, but I agree that calling it a "masterpiece" or ahead of its time is overkill.

Agreed. This is one of those films that I can't stop watching whenever I happen yo catch it by chance on TV.
The score is exceptional and I love the hilariously narcissistic number "Me" that opens the film. I'm also one of those people who actually prefers Meryl Streep when she cuts loose and she plays these OTT comedic parts. This type of performance is a lot more natural/less affected than some of Streep's more celebrated dramatic parts. And Bruce Willis is surprisingly good playing entirely against type.
My only misgiving is that the film could arguably be described as a little misogynist since its scorn is directed entirely against the two female leads' vanity whilst Willis' schlubby male, who lest one forget effectively kills his wife, even if she does 'return to life', is the default hero. I do think if Tracy Ulman's nerdy and more sympathetic character (who was due to end up with Willis before her character had been cut from the film) had been retained it would have mitigated against this potential issue.
