I highly doubt Earnest was THE ONLY expert at make upif they were gonna live forever the could've found other people through time.

He was the only one working with spray paint. Say what you will about Ernest, but the man is a genius. He is. He's a genius.

I think it might have been difficult for them to find someone new and it was easier for them to use Earnest since he knew them well. Also, I reckon regular people would have freaked out eventually once they found out about their secret of immortality.
Unless they got someone else to drink the potion too, then it might have worked.

Both women were obsessed with Ernest Menville. They were controlling obsessed witches, and I say this as a women who knows a controlling witch when I see one. There was more than one in this film.
OTOH, it's possible that death takes away one's ability to plan and think clearly about the futureso perhaps Madeline and Helen were impaired by the potion and by death.
I lean toward the witch theory. What do you think?

The film isn't meant to be rationalised, it is primarily for a visceral response.
Ernest was a mortician, not an airbrush artist. Ernest was a genius at being a mortician.
Hel had already gone mad before taking the potion. Mad's head had never been on straight.

I don't think it was because they had gone crazy. How could they explain to those other people the fact that they were a pair of living, walking corpses? Ernest was already in the know, and if they had gotten him to drink the potion, he would have been bound by the same secrecy.

They had been warned not to tell anyone about the magic potion and its effects and Ernest only knows because he saw both women die and then come back to life. Isabella is scary so they wouldn't want to go back on their promise to tell noone. Also, they are now a bit crazy and their need to cover up the fact that they are dead, look dead and want to remain young and beautiful (when he makes thme up) that they want him to do it (a man they previously fought over).

The entire makeup/spray paint thing is a tad silly and just for comedic effect I suppose. All of the other people in the "secret society" were able to look fine and dance around with no issues but Madeline and Helen have these constant problems? You'd think they'd just allow themselves to go pale and then get spray tans and wear a little regular makeup.

That's because Madeline and Helen had both 'died'
                    after
taking the potion. The other people in Lisle's 'secret society' had all taken the potion, yes, but we don't know if they all died, if that makes sense. If Madeline hadn't been pushed down the stairs or if Helen hadn't been shot, they wouldn't have needed the spray paint and make-up.
"Oh, my, where are my manners? Would either of you homicidal maniacs like some sweet tea?"

Oh, well still you'd think they'd just stick with fake/spray tans and normal make up. The spray paint was a little over the top haha.

Not so sure that spray tan was quite so ubiquitous in '92. I'd never heard of it until the Dance reality shows came to be (DWTS & SYTYCD). The surgeon/mortician pointed out that make-up didn't look natural on dead skin (have you ever been to an open casket funeral?).

Maybe the problem was that they would have to reveal that they were "the living dead" and everyone would run away?

Yeah, they could've looked for another make-up artist and stylist. But that person would've had to have been in on their secret or most likely have to take the potion as well.
