I'm usually not one of these people who predictably always blame the women in these affairs but in this case i have to!! she had evey chance to walk away - even he ended it and she played upon his feelings and kept it going.
Dont get me wrong i think he is just as much of a bastard - especially because he was older and should have known better, or at least put his son's happiness first.
But she spotted from the beginning that stephen was unhappy and knew she had the power - if she had an ounce of decency she would have walked out of martin's life the first time, she obviously didnt love him.
I cant believe she just beep off as soon as he died and didnt even show any remorse.
I think the most difficult thing about this film is how unforgiving their acions are.

I wanted to punch Anna as well. I know she was a very damaged individual, but she was extremely unsympathetic due to her single-minded selfishness. So there were a few times during the movie where I wanted a baseball bat.

yeah based on the reality of human condition, its not about really wanting to beat up a fictional charcter but having an opinion on the issues the film evokes. Like Anna a lot of people don't have that sense of remorse or morality, and pursue the impossible relentlessly without any thought to consequence - and its mroe about the frustration of people who are so blatantly inconsiderate/damaged/the nature of affairs/infidelity that angers people.
These provocations of thought are what make the film good and enjoyable for me because - they give me pause for thought and some kind perspective of things I dont understand; this is the whole point of a good movie so dont patronise me for expressing what I think.

I not only wanted to punch her, but I wanted the Miranda Richardson character to rip her hair out and throw her off a building. I've never seen such a selfish character. Her hairy beaver had a remorsless mind of its own.
