Telegram obviously, but also when we see stillwell angel at the end. The emotion on his face when he says he felt like he owed it to his mother to be here gets to me. That was the moment we realize Evelyn had passed.

- When Betty got the telegram
- Near the end, when older Dottie saw the Cooperstown display for Jimmy Duggan, and we see he died 4-5 years before the dedication.
- The end theme, I guess. It was poignant, but not quite a tearjerker.

One part that really gets to me (mostly because I miss my own mom) is when Stillwell looks up at the picture of his mom at the HOF. The look on his face is love but unmistakable sadness. You can see how much he misses her.

I thought it was very sad when Shirley Baker admitted she couldn't read.
Did you? I thought it was wonderful to realize that because of the tragedy of war and her own skill as a player, she was going to be rescued from a life of futureless servitude. Somebody helped her get that far, and she was lucky they did. No need to feel sorry for her - feel sorry, instead, for the countless other poor country girls who didn't have the luck, and the talent, and the help she did. -

In the scene when Dottie is seeing the ladies at the reunion I think it was Shirley who said "I am a doctor now."
My tv station played it as a late night movie tonight and I thought no it is going to get me to cry after not seeing it for years.
Once I got to scene where Marla's dad is begging Capidino to take his daughter to the try outs. It broke my heart.
Betty's husband being killed and of course the reunion and Lowinstein cuts the ribbon.
Then the end footage of the real AAGPBL playing yep gets me every time. -

I love this movie and always have. And you bet I cry, the whole era, the telegram scene, the end of the movie showing the girls all together while Madonna sings "this used to be my playground." And of course you're right about Marla's dad begging the scout to give her a try "I raised her like a boy, I didn't know any better, don't make her pay for that." God, do the tears come at that. By the end of the movie for someone who dosen't cry much over movies, I'm a bawling mess.

I agree, njgill. The reason this scene makes me cry is that Helen is so kind and compassionate in that moment to Shirley, when she is looking so lost, and then the happy news that she made the team! I feel touched by Helen's kindness and Shirley's relief and happiness, and these are what bring the tears on for me.

Yep, I cried a couple of times at the scenes that other people have mentioned here. I even teared up watching the real ladies play a game during the end credits.
It seems like a comedy, but this movie packs an emotional wallop, especially in its final half. I can't really say it's any particular scene that does this. It's more the overall tone of nostalgia/melancholy that slowly and honestly develops. It's a better movie than most people give it credit for. -

I cried a lot during this movie. The telegram scene is the most heart wrenching and especially when Dottie is crying too. But does anyone else tear up at the end when they are playing the World Series and Kits beats herself up after she allow Dottie to score a run? That whole World Series scene is intense. And coming from having competitive sisters who are better than you, i really get her frustration. It tears me up when Dottie also sees Kit breaking down before the bottom of the 9th. But i also get happy tears because Kit hellbent on finally beating her sister and on the 2nd strike, the look she gives Dottie just radiates her determination to finally come frim Dotties shadow, and she sees that her big sister using her weakness against her. I love this movie so much. The cast is great the acting is great the story is amazing and the music score is beautiful. Amazing movie

When Dottie watches Kit with all the Racine Belles, and she gets on the bus. It is the last time they are sisters.
I don't feel that much about Stillwell at the end, because he just seems like a big Mama's Boy. So that ruins the sentiment for me.
And when Kit approaches Dottie at the end in the Hall of Fame, and they pose for the picture, and the original picture from decades ago is shown, with the music.
Gee Woodle, Space Kadoodle!
