OK, I looked through both pages of this board and there's nothing on this.
My question is, was it ever made clear in behind the scenes footage or in interviews or anything if Bob (Dottie's husband) and George (Betty's husband) were in the same outfit?
I always wondered because while in today's world, communication is faster by way of radio/phone/etc.) that notifying a wife her husband died/was killed in the line of duty, would occur faster than it would take for a husband to be able to fly home after being discharged, but in those days, it just might have been possible that Bob could have been enroute to Dottie and arrive the same day the telegram would arrive and be delivered to its recipient.
And because of Bob telling Dottie that he was wounded/shot by a sniper and the sniper got seven of them before they could get the sniper made me wonder if Bob and George served in the same outfit/unit?

Which in and of itself is wrong [where Bob served] if any of the tales of my elders who were involved in WWII is true. It might just be true for the Marine Corps and not the Army, but I've always been told that everyone west of the Mississippi (which is certainly Oregon) served in the Pacific theater of the war, while everyone EAST of the Mississippi served in Europe. I'm not sure where Betty Spaghetti is from but she seems to have a slight East Coast accent. Thus, Bob & George were serving in the wrong theaters of war entirely! However, as I said, I think that might have just applied to the Marine Corps, and both Bob & George were regular Army. My grandfather, great-uncle and their good friend all served in Europe and we're WEST of the Mississippi as well, but then again, they were in the Army and not the Marines.
Again, it is mentioned a couple of times in the movie that Bob is in Europe and George is serving in the Pacific so no, they didn't serve together; likely never even met at boot camp. -

I never heard that, but I do know my Dad was in the Phillippines, and China in the Navy. We came from Philadelphia PA.
My dad said when he wrote to his mother, sometimes all he could say was Hi mom how are you, love Pud. He couldn't say anything that gave away the position. Just getting a letter was a blessing for her, even if it didn't say anything.
