Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Prelude to a Kiss

What a frustrating movie. It kept happening for me that I would get engrossed in the film, until some really heavy handed directing and editing choices would disengage me.
The worst example was the kiss between Peter and the old man. This is the kiss that the title refers to, and should have been the emotional climax of the film. I was very moved by it, but that was cut far too short by a quick cut to the next scene.
My guess is that the director or editor, or more likely the producers, were afraid to let a moment breathe that could have had homoerotic implications.
The scene should have been about the bravery and growth of a young man in discovering that love is love. Instead it became about the fear of the film makers.
