I don't think so this came out a year after the RW premiered. I read that they thought of the idea of in the late 80's, but wanted the show to be scripted. When they couldn't afford actors and everything they decided to get real people.

I stated if not for movies like this and if you researched your information this movie was in production long before The Real World, it just happened to come out around same year as TV show. Also RW got it's ideas not just from movies like this one but others including documentaries about lifestyles.
I just happened to come across this movie on TV back when I originally posted and reminded me of the stories that came out about The Real World and this movie. So wanted to share. Glad to see that this forum isn't dead like many others for 80s or 90s movies, which are being plagued by trolls so hard to know if I'm having a real discussion with a true fan.

I love the original seasons of the RW didn't like this movie that much, but I do see a similarity. Since you seem to have know a lot about this can you provide a link to where you're getting your info from?

Not currently I recall when TV show came out one news station joked how neither it or this movie would make a mark. Think it had to do w/ most stuff during that time were more about race/culture than anything else.
I'm not sure if u feel that I'm putting this movie down but I'm not. It was one of my favs growing up. Just informing those who perhaps weren't aware of the comparison.
I do find it weird how after all these yrs ppl are now wanting to comment about movie. Yet I've been posting back n forth about same subject and a few others, but find them to been either deleted or erased by the owners of this site.

You're just speculating, I know this because this film never had a theatrical release. It was straight to video, so virtually nobody saw this film until SB became a star.

That's utter nonsense. Probably less than 1000 people saw this film in its initial release. If Sanrdra Bullock hadn't become a star, you would've never seen it.

I was gonna post to ur prior comment but see this one posted afterwards. Either way, you will get both mgs.

I was young when it was released but it was shown in theaters. Maybe not in ur town but it was out there which is why I made initial comment.
                2. How would u know only 1000 saw film if it went straight to video? You just dissed your own previous comment by suggesting you knew it was seen in theaters. Still unsure ur regards about Sanrdra (which is not a correct spelling of your actress name ~ DUH!) as I mentioned maybe in this thread or others ~ this movie star was Chong. The box wasn't changed till yrs later when Bullock became known (i.e. perhaps after the movie Speed).

Click on the Release Date link on the main page. You'll see that this film had no theatrical release, so, it was never in theaters. It was actually made in 1991, but they sat on it for a while, then released it in 1993. It was 'straight to video'. This was typical of films that major theater chains has no interest in.
By far, most of the attention this film ever received came AFTER Sandra Bullock became a big star in the mid-90s. That's when it started to be shown on cable, etc.
                  These facts are straight forward.

Wow ur one of those internet chics if u were a real person u would known that this movie was showcased in movie houses as I stated. Get off the internet and into the real world "Baby Boy/Girl" (sorry unsure which one u could be). You still haven't proven to anyone (except yourself) that this movie starred Chong as the leading lady and not that of "the one whom u missed spelled name"

Typical internet poser, when your argument is blown to pieces, you resort to personal attacks.
You do realize that your claim that this film influenced MTV's Real World is absolute nonsense? You're just pulling this stuff out of your backside.
