Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Frasier

In Cheers vs Frasier. Besides being played by the same man, they seem like 2 entirely different characters. Anyone else feel that way?

No sorry, I'm just regularly living in the past. Occasionally I want to post something as though it's happening right now, and then realize it's only happening now for me.

Yes, I agree. I liked his character in Frasier best. Which did you like best?

I like him better on Frasier, but I think I just like that show a little more.

People often behave differently depending on whether they are with friends or with family.

That's true, this feels like more than that to me. This feels like an actor trying to realize the vision of different creators. Yeah they were a big TV family, but I think the brass on Frasier really wanted to polish up his character a little bit compared to how he was on Cheers.

He was a sociopath. No real personality to speak of, just whatever suited his environment. Occasionally he would slip, and we got a brief glimpse at his true dark nature. The real Frasier. The psycho killer.

That makes a lot of sense. He is sort of a chameleon. I'd love to see a continuation that acknowledges he's a murderer straight up. This show just got even more interesting.

playing a side character and playing the lead are two very different things. you lose a lot of the character aspects that made you a… character. as the lead you have to be more realistic and solid, to let the other characters do their thing, like Frasier did on Cheers.
Cheers is a better show though. It was even a better show the first two seasons before Frasier showed up.

Cheers is a better show though.
I disagree. Cheers was my favorite sitcom until Frasier came along. I have every episode of Frasier on DVD. Thinking about getting all the Cheers on DVD.
Liked all the episodes but this is my favorite. "Something Borrowed, Someone Blue"
It is a two part episode when Daphne and Donnie were going to get married.
IMO Frasier is the best sitcom ever.
