I watched this for the first time today (been meaning to for years!) and having seen all the other animated features I've got to say how impressed I was with this movie. Totally watchable, all the way through. In particular when Bruce is begging his parents' gravestone to let him love and not become Batman. The lines "It just doesn't hurt as much anymore" and "I didn't count on being happy" was probably the most genuinely moving scene of any Batman movie, animated or live action. A completely real movie and that scene stood out really strongly for me. Anyone else agree?

Go back and rewatch.
Unless you meant "wasn't able". Because he doesn't give up.
And we all know he wouldn't have been able to for long.
It wouldn't have worked out.
Bruce can't quit. It's not who he is.
Go read stories like The Long Halloween. And you'll see. -

Agreed. I watch this movie regularly and have an incredible experience each time. The graveyard scene is one of many in the film that demonstrates how well the talented folks behind the DCAU understand Batman.

That scene is probably one of if not the greatest most well done glimpse we get into the heart of Bruce Wayne, he's a superhero with almost 60 years of publishing history and somehow he is always elusive, but that scene is incredible. It has an emotional resonance that live action movies have never bothered to portray and let's be honest, they couldn't even dream to achieve such a thing, they simply wouldn't be able to. This is the only BATMAN film that has ever been made, the only movie about Batman and not the villains, and it is amazing.

Just revisited this because of the nonsense of BvS that should have been more about Superman but introduced a jaded cynical Batman.
Just needed to wash that off my eye palette.
I'll go along with the DCEU but will always have in my collection the BEST Batman on film.
