The Lost Ending (spoilers)

I heard somewhere there was another ending scripted for this movie originally that was far different from the final cut. Apparently it involved Garret making a call to his tabloid at a phone booth near the side of the road near the cornfield but it gets swallowed up into the earth by HHWEBTR. I would have loved to see this ending done or maybe when they release the dvd have it as a deleted scene or a special feature or so.
