Who would have you dropped?

I don't think I could have dropped my own son. In the movie, the mom is only just realizing her son is disturbed towards the end. Of course she could have been in denial the entire time (I'm sure his disturbing behavior was apparent even before Mark arrived) but if she was sure he killed her other son she wouldn't have taken him into the woods to ask him. With that said I think it'd be hard for her to all of a sudden decide to drop him based on the fact that she wasn't even sure that he was messed up until he pushed her.
I would like to assume I'd have unconditional love for my child no matter what they did in their life, and that includes if he ever tried to harm me. If they were as disturbed as Henry, I'd want to get them the best help possible. And if there was a slim chance he could manage his psychological problem or even get better, I'd try to save him just so we could at least try.
Knowing me though I'd try to save both and then I'd end up losing both. -

Finally, someone who has a child of their own who can actually answer such an asinine question. I don't see how any parent could kill their own child, no matter what they've done. I'd have no choice but to help him up, and do everything I could to get him the help he needs. It's your responsibility as a parent.

I don't know if I could have dropped my own son. I'd probably think I could cure him. And I like that in the film, Mark does say that he's not sure if Susan would have saved him if she had to do it again.
Like another poster said, I'd probably hang onto both kids and end up going over as well.

Even though it be be hard to drop my own kid I would have let go of Henry. He pushed his mom over the cliff and tried to kill her. He tried killing his sister and killed his brother. If he was saved he might have tried killing the mom again. The mo saved the right kid. Mark was trying to save the family.

that was a difficult situation for sure. In a way it's too bad she couldn't save both of them despite all of Henry's actions. Who knows what would've happened if she saved Henry instead of Mark though. Another thing I've kind of wondered and that no one has seemed to mention, or at least I don't think so, is that what would've happened if she dropped both of them?? The ending would've then been very very different.

I get the feeling if she saved Henry that once he got back up he would try and push her over again. For real. Like he is going to let his mom lock him up in a mental institute.

That's a really difficult question to answer. We all know there is no love like the love for your child. I don't even have kids and I can imagine what that feels like. With that said though, I would think of Elijah Woods' character as very loving and one that tried to warn me, save my life. So, I would think that I would want to give him life versus giving life to a boy that I pretty much knew was evil. In the end though, it would be difficult to drop either of them. I would probably try to save both and end up dropping both.
I don't know pretty horrible thing to think about. -

Are you being serious? I would have saved Mark for many reasons.
- He was completely innocent.
- He'd had tried to warn the mum and she'd hit him for it and told him not to lie so she'd feel guilty.
- Mark had just saved her life.
- Henry had admitted to killing his brother and watched silently as she ripped herself apart blaming herself for the 'accident'.
-
- pretty much proves that Henry tried to kill his sister as well.
- And most bloody obvious, he'd just tried to kill her.
The fact that in the film she was even thinking about it shows what a bad person she was.
I'm sorry but if my obviously evil son and a completely innocent boy, who had actually tried to warn me about the whole thing and then saved my life, were dangling from my arms and on top of that whilst Mark was silently pleading, Henry was verbally trying to get me to drop Mark, i'd be a complete retard to save Henry.

who says mark was innocent dont forget the stories told from marks point of view he may of been falsifying teh facts to make him look like the good guy and henry the evil one dont forget that he saw susan as a replacement for his own (dead) mum
