And the one thing I never understood at the time was if John and Max hated each other so much, why they spent so much time trying to hook their children up with each other. My mother tried to explain that they didn't hate each other. Watching it in adulthood, I realize she was right. John and Max argued and bickered and pulled childish pranks on each other but from what I can tell now, that's just how older people talk to each other. Deep down, underneath it all, they really did care about each other, and you can tell they did because, at least until Ariel came along, for two guys who hated each other so much they sure seemed to spend a lot of time together.

I saw it as a kid too I didn't understand it either, ofund the film nboring, now I Think it's Lovely even if very cliched, wonderful feelgoood film and it wa slovely to see these old time actors, anyway I have seen lot of films with Jack Lemmon from his younger years.

I was 10 and most of it flew over my head but I laughed my face off through the whole thing. Now the sequel I was a little older for and knew I'd forever love these two movies. There isn't many that even come close to the atmosphere this cast puts out. It's a shame there isn't more. Or more to the point the biggest shame is they waited so long to do the first one.
