I first watched this movie with my eighty-something year old church-going grandmother. She thought it was hilarious, especially the outtakes of Burgess Meredith during the closing credits. Surely even the wisest of wise people still appreciate a bit of nookie now and then.

In response to the original poster, Grandpa would say, "I'm 95, what do I care!"

I'm 26 years old. I look back on my first 26 years and they feel like they flew by. I will age like everyone else, but whether or not someone considers me classy or whatever I could care less. I am here to live my life, and I realize that life is short. I'm going to have fun, watch movies with the F-word and sex in it and realize it's just a movie. I'll probably say the F word 20 times a day. It's just a word. I don't see why everyone considers certain words bad. Move to Europe. It seems they are so relaxed over there. No one cares about cussing, if a boob falls out it's no big dealit's just human anatomy. Freakin' relax, and live your own stinking life.

No beep huh? beep amen brother. Can't stand these uptight, born in the 40s, stick up they're asses, sand in they're vaginas type of people. People like the OP and her "I don't like distasteful language" followers is why we are stuck with beep half time shows ever since Janet Jackson's side boob was shown on TV.

Why can't old people talk about sex? That's ridiculous.

I completely disagree with the OP. People that age (especially Burgess Meredith's character), who live here in Minnesota, act and talk almost exactly like they do in this movie. The funniest people I get a chance to talk to are the older people who I see at the bars. They swear like sailors, drink like fish, and smoke like chimneys. They just aren't concerned how other see them, and that's the way it should be. If I live to be that age, I hope I'm as funny as B.M. in this movie.
Most people think that the movie Fargo is a solid depiction of life in Minnesota. This movie is about as close to true as it gets.

EXACTLY!!!! I couldn't have said it better myself. I was raised by my grandparents, and we lived on a lake in Minnesota. Can't get much closer to this movie than that. And until the people who have a problem with the "cursing" in this movie, spends some time, living on a lake in Minnesota, you won't get it.

You have got to be kidding me..these guys have been doing movies since dinosaurs walked the earth (well, we should be so lucky) Matthau and Lemmon were (and are) the epitome of a comedic duo. I love all their stuff. Let it be for what it is, else we should use the quote " why don't you pull your lower lip over your head and swallow"

I watched it last night and remembered the inappropriate language. I was reminded of lots of nude scenes during the '70s. Just stuck in because they could.

I think that TV and movies are way too liberal with the whole sex thing and what is said by people of any age but having said that I do think this movie handles it pretty well, without a lot of the really bad words, and the worst stuff is actually in the credits. And I really thought the whole scene with Lemmon and Ann-Margaret going to bed was great. I found it very funny and touching at times, the acting was great considering Lemmon and Mathau give the same sthick (sic) they always do with their usual expertise. And I think a lot of old guys do talk that way not all, but a lot.
One final thought I don't find older folks talking about sex and such nowhere near as offensive as children in movies they use every word in the book in the movies and nearly every one on TV. Now that is not right!!
