I've now seen TWBB twice and DDL's performance in nothing short of brilliant. I don't believe i've ever been lost in a character like I have of Daniel Plainview.
I'd be interested to see how you compare to CB in MLF. -

Well, i've seen TWBB 3 times and thought it was an excelent film and a brilliant performance by DDL. It was his finest performance and one of the best in film history. Every gesture, every word he says, every step he gives, it's just perfect. I'm really amazed by his performance and by the film too, in my opinion it was the best film of the year by far and one of the best i've seen in a long time.
DDL is my favourite actor now, no doubt about that, the guy has given 4 perfect and brilliant performances: My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood. All are 10/10 performances. -

I thought he was great in The Age of Innocence. He was great in ITNOTF. Miriam Margolyes in TAOI called him brilliant but hard to get to know (whatever that means) (I think it was Miriam Margolyes, this was 15 years ago.) Everything he does is great. The Last Of the Mohicans. wow
He lifts me clear to the sky, you know he taught me to fly.

He's well known as a method actor and perfectionist; so she probably just means that he never drops out of character; and is thus impossible to get to know who HE is.
One of the best actors ever IMO, ahead even of Gary Oldman

Yeah i read that when he was playing Abe Lincoln he would be in character every moment during the time of shooting, even when he was at home and he would even walk around with the Abe Lincoln costume in public and still continue to act like him
the guy is an unbelievable actor, in my opinion the best in the business for the last couple decades -

I came here to post my admiration for DDL and figured this post is the best place to put it. I was mesmerized by his performance in Gangs, but having never seen him before that, figured he was just one of those long time stage actors no one had ever seen before. However, watching the trailers for Blood, I realized this guy is amazing. Therefore, when I was channel surfing and came across In the name of the Father, and saw his name in the info section, I watched and was again struck by what an amazing actor this guy is. The range of emotions that he goes through, best seen in the jury trial at the endvery impressive acting. At first, I thought he was a type cast actor, but there is enough different emotions at work in Gangs and Father, that I was wrong.
Given a life time of movies, he will become one of the greatest actorsMarlon Brando, step aside.
Now to go rent Left Foot and see what everyone is talking about.

Daniel Day-Lewis gave the perfomance of his life in this movie. He is wonderful as Gerry Conlon.
I dunno what the academy members were smoking when they gave the Academy Award to Tom Hanks instead of Daniel.
Outrageous! -

I agree with what everyone's been saying. I also think this was probably his best performance, better than My Left Foot. But, it should be noted that I haven't seen There Will Be Blood yet. In any event, he definately deserved that Oscar instead of Tom Hanks

it is an amazing performance and DDL is,for my money, the best screen actor working. There is nobody better and very few who are even in the same league.
as to the poster who felt there were a cartoonish element to his performance in GANGS,I feel DDL is so fearless as to pitch a performance on the very edge of parody and yet,to me,it never tilted over into unbelievability.
I Think if one were to watch all his performances back to back you would see the sheer range of this guy is astonishing.I cant wait to see TWBB.I'm sure it will be another performance of rare intensity and power. -

I haven't seen TWBB, yet some of the clips from the fim and certainly some of the main critics in the UK ie the Daily Mail, have pointed to yet another masterclass of over acting.
I saw DDL play Romeo on stage when he was touring with a schools production back in the early 80's as an unknown - I remember we all commented on the over the top performance, liberally sprinkled with the 'snot and spit' style of acting which some critics take for reality.
to daniel who lives down the road from here in wicklow.. 'sometomes less is more'
