37% on Rotten Tomatoes??? Really?
This movie is beautifully shot by a renowned Director, gorgeous cinematography, beautiful score/soundtrack, and knockout acting performances by all involved.
I also think it's a great love story. The chemistry b/t Demi and Woody is amazing; Redford couldn't be better. Still, 20 years later, when you watch this you ask the same thing, "Would you do it?" This movie is very underrated.
I'm not saying this is Gone With the Wind, but 37%? Really? This movie deserves at least 80% in my opinion. It's a flawlessly shot, always entertaining film that I can watch over and over. -

Why? Even if you hate the movie more than anything else you've ever seen, the cinematography alone would warrant more than a 1 IMO. Adrian Lyne is a very good director. And may I ask, just for an example, a movie you would rate a 9-10?

I didn't rate based on the cinematography, or musical score I disliked the story that much. I think my ratings are public, you should be able to view if you want.

I agree that this is a very underrated movie. I saw it as a kid (yeah probably too young to be watching it) and I remember being at the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I recently re watched it as an adult and still loved it and felt all the emotions I felt the first time. I don't understand the low rating either. It's a pretty original story mixed with romance and yes the cinematography is great as well as the music they chose in some of the scenes. Plus the cast was great. I wish they still made movies like this.

Maybe this film was too challenging for people and made them feel bad about themselves (and what they would do in the same situation).
I'm the opposite..I love films that challenge me, and I can't stand romantic comedies with their silly lighthearted stories (so I don't watch them). -

She did not leave him for a rich man; Her husband left her. She was also the one to break it off with Redford in the car, saying 'we have to talk..' and Redford knew what was coming and so to make it easier for her he made up that story. She knew he was lying to her to make it easier for her to break it off.

I don't get the 5.8 rating. What I find even harder to understand are those who say it's the worst film they have ever seen. Clearly they don't watch many films.
I thought it was a great film 22 years ago. I still think it's a great film. Despite the moral implications, I still find the film very sad, touching and the rest. And I'm a 50 year old bloke who would never consider what they did, not for all the riches in Heaven. -

I think 37% on RT is alright. A lot of popular movies received very low rating on RT. A lot of reviewers on that site are just simply judgmental.
However, there are so many people on this site is trying to lower this movie's ranking by voting 1 star.
Obviously, this is not a movie deserve 1 star. It does not deserve 10 stars either but 1 is just hating for no reason. -

The story is terrible and pointless. She made a big deal out of not allowing herself to be bought and then let herself be bought. Then after she'd made a complete ass out of herself and ruined her poor husband's life, she decided she'd just go back and he thought that was a-ok. The beep? That makes NO sense. The whole thing was stupid.

It's so interesting that this is the top thread on here, because I was about to create a thread and say this very same thing. I just rewatched this movie on Amazon for the first time in many years, and it's a great movie. I truly do not understand why it has such a low rating. It has a 4-star rating on Amazon, which is what it deserves.
I normally won't even watch a movie that's rated under a 6, because it's normally a guarantee that it's a waste of time, but not in this case.
