The story is terrible and pointless. She made a big deal out of not allowing herself to be bought and then let herself be bought. Then after she'd made a complete ass out of herself and ruined her poor husband's life, she decided she'd just go back and he thought that was a-ok. The beep? That makes NO sense. The whole thing was stupid.

It's so interesting that this is the top thread on here, because I was about to create a thread and say this very same thing. I just rewatched this movie on Amazon for the first time in many years, and it's a great movie. I truly do not understand why it has such a low rating. It has a 4-star rating on Amazon, which is what it deserves.
I normally won't even watch a movie that's rated under a 6, because it's normally a guarantee that it's a waste of time, but not in this case. -

i've always known about this movie and it has aired on tv since i was a kid and i've never been able to get hooked on it, i still haven't seen the whole thing, but the part with him and the stuffed animal on the sofa and the hippopotamus appearing was one weird scene!
waiting for the next flying saucer to come along,
you dont need to come back at all,
im heading for a place,
a neat planet far off in space,
maybe where dreams come true from reality of yesterday,
its my last night on earth,
gonna have a ball before leavin you in the dirt. -

Screw ROTTEN TOMOTOES.
They mean nothing.
This movie is still awesome if you have ever been in love and lost.
Great in 1993 and still awesome in 2016
Demi Moore was smoking hot.

Lol years later coming back to this thread, now that I think about it I never meant the rating on here but on Rotten Tomatoes. I never place much stock into audience rating exactly because of this kind of crap. Rotten Tomatoes, for me at least, is spot on about 8-9 out of 10 times. I base all my movies on it.
But yes, people are clearly not movie people if they rate this low just because the big bad storyline is against their morals.
I still love this move and always. It's aged well.
