For some reason the cinematography in this film remind me of the Silent Hill video game series, which was released a couple years after this film's debut. The set design is very northern/midwestern townish, just like the town of Silent Hill. Also, the lighting is so bleak and dark. It just struck me as Silent Hill-esque, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the game's artists saw this film and subconsciously brought it into his work. Also Nicole Kidman is gorgeous.

Definitely similarities but there are a lot of movies like this that have that dark / dreary look to it over the years. Nicole Kidman was smokin' hot in this.
