The beach scene certainly wasn't anywhere near Boston! Looked more like Southern California to me. The house itself definitely could have been somewhere in new England, but the long distance shot introducing it looked CGI'd (or whatever they used before CGI since this was done in '93).

        map painting.
I think the beach is used in a bunch of Hollywood films. I can't be sure but possible in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Well the beach scene could most definitely have been shot near(ish) boston, ever hear of Cape Cod? While i'm not certain of this i wouldnt doubt it as a huge portion of the movie was filmed in massaschusetts. I know this because it was being filmed in the Amherst/ Northampton Ma. area the same time that i was going to college in the area at the time and many of the landmarks and street signs are clearly visible. Also, about a year later from when the movie was shot i lived in the house that the dead body was buried in the garden was found while still an undergrad of course i didnt know this till a few years after that as i didnt see it in the theaters but caught it on cable and when the scenes showing the house came on i had to do a major doubletake thinking to myself damn that looks like the house i lived in and then realized damn THAT is the house i lived in. Anyway not a great movie but not bad but the fact that it was shot partly where i lived is pretty cool.

I was living on Graves Ave in Northampton when Malice was filmed there. It's funny to see how they jumble the streets in the opening credits.

graves ave nice i know that street. the house i lived in that was featured in the movie was on union street just before the bridge into downtown, Joes Pizza was just around the corner and if ya never went to Joes while living in NoHo well then you really missed out on a fantastic old school pizza place, not to mention the fact that Smith college is in NoHo and lemme tell yah no party is better than a party at an all girls school hehe.
but yeah they did scramble up the streets for the movie but anyone who spent any time around the area can sort it out.

It's called a "Matte" (not map) painting.
I wanna know whose house it was (if Dr. Lillienfield didn't exist).
