Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Remains of the Day

Has anyone seen both Remains of the Day and 84 Charing Cross Road and thought the staircase was the same? In the Remains of the Day where James Stevens, Sr. left his dustpan/mop and in 84 Charing Cross road where P.D. goes in search of books for the shop (he picks up a book for Helene on romantic poems) it looks as if it is the same staircase? Does anyone know if the same estate was used for both? Curious to find out.

I don't know but it reminded me a lot of the scene in Sense and Sensibility at the beginning when Edward Ferrars (Hugh Grant) was talking to his sister Fanny and she was complaining about how down the Dashwoods were being when their father had just died and they were being forced to move out of their home.

I own both films. They're not even the least bit similar, even in layout, let alone moldings, paint color on the walls, and so on.

Many different grand British residences were used as a composite to create Darlington Hallit's possible some sections may have been used in other films.
