Why didn't Arliss Howard (older Smalls) narrate?

They're are two actors credited as older Scotty Smalls, one is the Narrator, and the other is Smalls as a sports announcer cheering on his old friend, Benny.
But since both actors are arguable the same age why wouldn't you have ONE actor play both narrator AND sports announcer Smalls?
It's so strange to think that the Howard-Smalls would grow up further and further change his voice lol.
