There was some article in VF over ten years ago that claimed Meyers tried to cut down Carvey's part as much as possible in the sequel because he felt Garth was stealing the spotlight from Wayne. Could be apocryphal, but VF isn't some cheap tabloid magazine. They usually research pretty well.
