Things that would not work in 2016

The only gay jokes I found funny were when Joey was teaching Ross dirty talk, Ross and Joey's naps and the 'gay cruise' thing. The overall homophobic vibe (especially from Ross) was a product of its time and wouldn't fly today.

I never picked up a homophobic vibe from Friends. Like I say it treated being gay as a normal lifestyle choice, and the characters who you would at least expect to be homophobic (Chandler and Ross) weren't. Chandler was embarrassed by both his parents, but never seemed to have any problem with gay people (and if he did it wasn't shown), and Ross seemed more focused on the fact that his wife had found someone else, not that it was another woman.
The closest Ross got to homophobia was with Sandy, and even that was revealed to be just Ross being insecure about himself. -

Almost every scene in an airport would be different/gone. No way would Rachel have made it as far as she did to get to Ross before he left for China, and same thing with Janice hanging around waiting for Chandler to leave for Yemen. Speaking of which Chandler trying to get a fake ticket to Yemen would have been marked as "suspicious behavior" and he would have been hauled off for questioning.

I never understood why some people hate fat people so much. It's one thing to see someone and go "oh damn that person's fat" but it's another thing to keep going on and on about their fatness making jokes like it's the only problem in the world. To me, that's just weird.

That one does actually exist. Not for that actual airport joke, but when Chandler and Monica go on their honeymoon, Chandler made a joke about a bomb and they hauled him in for questioning. Because of 9/11 they changed the storyline. In recent years, they released the original scenes though. If you YouTube it, it should come up.
You're welcome

Rachel finding out about Monica and Chandler by listening to their landline conversation (I know some people still have landlines, but Monica and Chandler would obviously use cell phones for "secret" conversations)

They never could have gotten away with waiting so long to call Rachel on her cell when they were trying to stop her from going to Paris in the last episode. That was really contrived how Ross wouldn't say anything on the phone when they finally did call her, lol

I didn't find the fat jokes funny in the original run either. Never will.
Kathleen Turner however, as Chandler's dad, that was HILARIOUS. Why wouldn't it fly now? They didn't make him look stupid or anything. He was played flamboyant, which there's nothing wrong with, and also had serious scenes. Kathleen Turner did an awesome job. I think we are still able to not take ourselves too seriously in 2016.

People would be fat shaming and bullying by Ross and Monica. He would still be a geek and being a Paleontologist now wouldn't be as cool as it was in 1994 a few years after Jurassic Park was released.

In 2016, they'd all be sat on the couch staring down at smart phones.
Cue theme song.
Except, they'd be talking to each other as well. To be honest, I can easily imagine Friends as though it was released today, in this scenario you just have characters occasionally look at their smart phones as they talk, or be looking at them throughout their conversation (assuming the Friends are characters who would care about smart phones). It wouldn't change the show very much at all (sorry if you were just joking).
He would still be a geek and being a Paleontologist now wouldn't be as cool as it was in 1994 a few years after Jurassic Park was released.
Palaeontology was never intended to be cool in Friends as far as I can see, and was as far as I could see, portrayed as a geeky job. Ross was usually the only character who cared about it, and was even shown to be aware of the fact that his job is not considered cool (such as in "The One With The Rumor" where Ross's old friend Will jokingly reminds him how they used to be really into dinosaurs, suggesting that Will now views it as a passing childish fad). -

But she's no longer fat? If she were fat I could understand why the jokes would be a problem, but it's like family making jokes about something you did when you were younger. You're no longer young anymore so get over it. I've personally lost over 100lbs and I don't mind fat jokes, because I'm no longer fat.

I don't really agree to that, as I still use my landline phone, and I wouldn't be surprised if people still do. I have a mobile, but I usually use it when I'm away from my home to make calls, not while I am at home, even though I have been told it costs less money to use my mobile at home (I just find it easier to use to landline, because it's right there, and already switched on).
