Gary the cop should have been…

Not sure about Phoebe's great love, but I do agree (and I've said this a few times) that initially good or ideal boy/girl-friends are ruthlessly 'killed off the series by turning into Mr/Ms Hyde'. Gary was initially sweet but then was made this needless gun-toting bird killer, which was really not in his character.

I don't think I'd say he was her one great love but he so easily could have been. I was so surprised when we got to his last scene where he shoots the bird cause I felt like that was so not in his character. Plus, he was my favorite of Phoebe's love interests.
Once upon a time there was a magical place where it never rained. The end. -

Hahahahaha. The guy was insane. He was trying to move in with someone he'd been dating for like a month? That is a red flag.
Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

Well then maybe. I do think the actors had good chemistry but I don't think it would have been a good idea for Phoebe to be in a serious relationship that early in the show.

I wouldn't say he was hilarious and edgy.
I didn't mind him as a character though, but like most people, I feel it was a cheap and silly way to get rid of him abruptly by having him do something so out of character.
I assume he was always going to be a short term character, so if he and Phoebe were never going to make it long term, why could the writers not found a better exit story? -

I liked his character, he had great chemistry with Phoebe. But it's just another example that the writers kinda sucked at writing out certain characters, just like Paul in season 3 with Monica. Both to me were written out in a scenario that seemed totally out of character.
