Is the book worth reading?

I read the book about 7 years ago. Some of the characters in the movie had reduced roles than they did in the book. The book also tied together some small loose ends I thought the movie had. IIRC the Tom Sanders character was much younger, closer to Meredith's age.
Having seen the movie many times I would definitely suggest you read the book. -

I just finished the book a couple weeks ago, the book is much more detailed, both character wise and plot line, than the movie. Lot's of specifics are cleared up in the book, plus it is so interesting to see what made it into the movie and what did not. I thought it was odd in the book that Meredith was blond with short curly hair

yet another area where the book is more detailed! Why did Meridith have "short curly blonde hair"? In the book, it is revealed that Meredith had majored in "Psychology" prior to obtaining her MBA. Garvin was close to his daughter and took her death very hard. What does Meredith do? She slowly changes her appearance to resemble more like Garvin's late daughter, a tactic she used to get closer and in favor with Garvin, psychology that worked on Garvin without him even realizing it.

BOOK SPOILER
Great read, regardless of how you feel about the subject matter. Some observations:
-I did not care for the Max Dorfman (Tom Sanders' mentor) character, I was glad they took that out for the movie.
-Tom Sanders' wife, Susan, came off as a little bit of a b*tch in the novel. She was responsible for Tom being late for the work at the beginning and they get into a heated argument about feminism/women's rights.
-I love the little cautionary side story about a male executive and his downfall because of some overzealous psychiatrist who (wrongly) accuses him of molesting his daughter.
-I was a little annoyed with the extremist feminist newspaper reporter looking to smear Tom Sander's name because of his harrassment claim.
-I also liked the "American Graffitti"-type ending with short blurbs about some of the characters' fates. My favorite is Mark Llewyn (Dennis Miller in the movie) getting busted for sexual harrassment, resulting in his wife filing for divorce. -

I agree! The book was fantastic!
-I was not into the Max Dorfman character either, although I can see why they added it into novel. I like who he was (major shareholder & retired chairman of the Digicom board of directors) and what he had to say (when you cut thru the BS), but grew tired of his personality and riddling dialogues.
-I like the "revealed details" towards the end leading (eventually) to the discovery of an affair between Meredith and Ed Nichols the CFO of Conley-White.
-I like the short blurb at the end concerning Meredith's future, becoming VP of Operations & Planning at IBM's Paris office, and eventually marrying the U.S.'s ambassador to France.
-I enjoyed one of the last scene's, Tom's final DVL (digital video link) communication with Arthur Kahn, when he "fires" Arthur.
-I liked the book's "virtual reality" scene version, where Tom, Katherine Alvarez (Louis Fernandez in the book) and John Conley see and acknowledge one another while they are looking at files at the same time in the virtual database. In the book, there were two (2) virtual reality computer set-ups running the "Corridor" program, one at the hotel the Conley-White people were staying at and one w/ two headsets & walkers inside the "engineering" dept. of Digicom.
-I like the details about Meredith's past encounter's of seducing other men that worked under her at Digicom & then having them dismissed (prior pattern), a fact that Digicom's board of directors was aware of.- I especially like the details concerning how Meredith got in good with Garvin utilizing her background in "psychology" to play into Garvin's memory of his recently deceased daughter.

Actually, Mark was only accused of sexual harassment. He was cleared of the charge, but his wife still filed for divorce. (Fernandez, the lawyer, had cautioned Sanders that with harrassment accusations, divorce is not uncommon.)

I have read the book from beginning to end at least 20 times over the last 15 years, and often, when I'm bored, I'll pick it up, flip to a random page and start reading. Nearly every time I do, I learn something new, regardless of how many times I had read it before.
