I just watched it again after 10 years and I found Tom Cruises's performance pretty underwhelming. Whatever accent he was attempting was terrible and it was as if you could see him trying to actlike watching an amateur dancer counting their steps.

Cruise was woefully miscast and it helped ruin the picture. I'm not sure why Anne Rice eventually changed her criticism of his casting unless it was simple denial on her part.
Cruise is a decent actor, but he was awful as Lestat.

I disagree, OP. I thought Tom was excellent in this movie. He did a great job as Lestat, IMO.
