I still think this is a great movie tho oldman ruins it with his over the top acting and fake acccent , I think Christopher walken woulda been a much better choice

Oldman is gloriously over the top in almost everything

He was an addict who was stoned all the time which explains his overacting.

Much as I love Christopher Walken, I don't think he would have been as memorable as Gary Oldman in that role.

I think Oldman was great in this role, as with pretty much any role I've seen him in. He really seems to sink into his characters because I don't think I've ever seen two performances of his that felt the same unlike some other still very great actors…Dicaprio comes to mind as an example of someone who's performances often DO feel the same. In this film I think Oldman's character was written to be exactly that over the top, as a foil to Leon who is so calm, quiet, and collected.

Maybe Al Pacino could have done it well enough, but Christopher Walken would have seemed too light in the loafers.

Maybe Nicolas Cage a better choice.
