Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mixed Nuts

People! Do not watch this garbage! Unleast before you watch "Le Pre Nol est une ordure".
    http://imdb.com/board/10084555/
This is one of the most weird and witty comedy I've ever seen. With a great sense of black humour and hilarious dialogues.
For every good and popular French comedy Americans made a remake. And each one was horrible. just horrible.
Remakes of the foreign COMEDIES are absolutely useless by definition and virtually always stupid. I really do not understand the reason to watch them instead of the originals
my ratings: remake - Mixed Nuts (1994): 3!
original - Le Pre Nol est une ordure (1982): 9!

I haven't seen mixed nuts (yet), but I agree completely with sonya about the original. Absolutely hilarious. Definitely worth watching.

            I agree with you !
Always or most of the times , original is better than a copy. And so far americans they never attained the level of an european movie: Solaris,Vanilla Sky,Le pere Noel est une ordure,Un indien dans la ville ,La cage aux folles.the list remains open.

You can find the french original masterpiece on DVD in UK with an an Eng Dub (don't know if it's a good idea as the jokes may have been changed) and in the U.S with eng subs. It's under it's french title "Le pere Noel est une ordure" ( wich can be translated by "Father Christmas is a scumbag", don't hesitate it has nothing to do with the "Mixed Nuts" mess.

The jokes are completely lost unless you know french, that's regarding "Le pre Nol" I actually rate "Mixed nuts" quite high when it comes to remakes of foreign language comedies, I also like better the ending of the american version.

I have seen only "Mixed Nuts," which is horrible despite the great cast and cinematographer Sven Nykvist (how'd he wind up on this?). But because I also gave "Mixed Nuts" a 3, I'll take your advice and check out "Le Pre Nol est une ordure." But I think I'll wait until we get closer to the holidays. 😉

Watched Mixed Nuts for the probably 4th time; hilarious as always! Incredible cast-each one is a well crafted actor/actress. It was the first movie I had seen Liev Schreiber in; a memorable drag, up there with Patrick Swayze in Too Wong Fu! Never a dull moment in this movie; the jokes never stop. I have little patience for movies that are slow & this one kept my attention. It was like watching a totally improvised piece. I don't always like Adam Sandler but he was wonderful, doing one his songs (as on Saturday Night Live) on a ukelele. Worth watching, but only if you have a sense of humor which "WarpedRecord" (gee what a surprise)seems to lack-hopefully he or she will get one for the holidays-no offense-lol!

I agree with you, not with the OP and the others.
I love French cinema, but I haven't watched the "original", but someday I will. Thanks to the OP for mentioning it, not so much for the unnecessary bashing of this good version.
This movie was out 22 years ago, yet I don't remember having watched it when I was younger, which is odd considering I love comedies ever since I was a baby. So this movie was quite a great positive surprise to me.
I'm not a huge fan of Nora Ephron, but I have enjoyed some of her stories and some of the movies she has directed. But come on, we've got Steve Martin, Madeline Khan, Rita Wilson, Juliette Lewis, the landlord guy and Juliette's husband All great actors. Since I don't have anything personal against Sandler (or didn't use to have until Pixels), I also thought it was nice to have him on this.
Then you have Liev Schreiber doing the drag, which if you have seem Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock, you'll have to agree it was the best thing about that movie. I had no idea he had done such a similar character some two decades ago.
To top it all, even the rollerbladers are Jon Stewart and Parker Posey! If you like comedy, it can't get much better than that.
I understand movies in general, but specially comedies, depend a lot on the mood you are on when you watch them. But I'm not on my best mood right now, and even I was able to enjoy this movie quite a lot.
Then I come check the message boards and it's actually quite depressing to see negative threads for EVERY SINGLE MOVIE EVER MADE!
I'm not better than any of you though. I've been badmouthing Twilight since it was released, and I just watched it yesterday for the first time, only to realize it isn't a bad movie after all.
I guess, if we go by commentators and reviewers, no movie ever made would be good enough to avoid these angry posts. I see my errors now and I hope at least I can change.

That's fine if you speak French, or enjoy subtitles, but hardly makes for a lighthearted movie if you don't.
