You must be too young MrsStevemurray, to remember Steve martin before his hair went all white, but that was how it looked back then without a dye job.

you people are absolutely crazy. This movie was hilarious. It had so many funny moments. Madeline Kahn was incredibly funny and i think the real star of the movie. Yes it was offbeat. Yes it was odd. And yes it was strange but thats what made it so funny. The only thing i would have changed was adam sandler. His role was horribly annoying and i fast forwarded whenever he went into his dumb songs. It would have been better without him.

This is the only film I ever heard of where someone asked for a refund and got it. Friend of mine went to see it when it came out and walked out after fifteen minutes. Got the refund, no argumentkid just said "Oh.yeah.that movie.ok."

Agreed. It's doubly disappointing to me because I saw it as a kid and thought it was absolutely hilarious. It was one of those movies I always meant to buy and always forgot to and I'm so glad I did. Madeline Kahn (RIP) is, of course hilarious but she could read a phone book out loud and I would pay gobs of money to see it. Liev Schreiber is pretty decent too but they can't save this movie. It's like watching a high school play.

Amazing, becasue this has become a family tradition in our home. Every year, we sahre this with a new person and they ALWAYS agree, this is a new holiday favorite.
We all find it very funny and we always laugh out loud. -

I agree - really bad. Almost finished watching it now and I don't think I've laughed one time. And it's not the acting which is passable at least. It's the horrible writing and lack of any substantial plot. Am I really supposed to believe that Phillip and Catherine like each other? There was absolutely no apparently chemistry between them until all of a sudden it came out that Catherine had always liked him. Am I to believe that these lunatics run a 'lifesavers' organization? Can't do it. I was very surprised that the rating was 5 and that most of the threads on the message board aren't about how bad it is! The only reason I'm watching it 'til the end is because I like seeing Venice as I lived in Socal and miss the heck out of it.

Years ago, a friend of mine and his wife were in town over the holidays. We decided to go to a movie. I think my friend and i wanted to see some new Star Trek movie or something - and his wife had some other movie in mind.
Well, we decided to compromise and see a movie that no one knew anything about. It was "Mixed Nuts".
It was so bad that it was stunning. I don't remember the movie anymore - i only vaguely remember a bride and a bowling ball, but I don't remember it. But I do remember how only one person in the theater seemed to be laughing at the humor. And I do remember how we laughed afterward about - not the movie, but how bad and predictable it was.
If we had known how each other had felt, we probably would have just walked out.
It was by far the worst movie I ever saw. And since that time, I developed a new approach to watching movies with friends - Either the friend chooses or I choose, but we don't compromise. I would rather know that at least one of us is enjoying it.
Now, I suppose that I should go back and see this again sometime just to know what it was that I disliked. I'm not sure I could sit through it - even in my own home. But it is nice to know I have a low-water mark for my ratings.
