Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Santa Clause

    viper36027 — 9 years ago(December 17, 2016 10:41 AM)

At the end when Neil tells the kid he'll makea great psychiatrist and the kid replies, "no thanks, I think I'm going to go into the family business" is really messed up. Doesn't he realizes there is only one Santa, his dad, and to become the new Santa you have to kill the other!?! The kid is going to kill the father to take over the family business!!!!!
    Great holiday message

Maybe it's like a monarchy; when a king or queen dies, their firstborn takes over.

Yea, he could have just meant working at the North Pole. That doesn't mean he HAS to be Santa. There are lots of other jobs to do and he could even see an unmet need and come up with a new job.

I think I've seen Santa retiring and handing over his duties to his son in more than one movie. One definite film where that happens is 2022 MR. ST. NICK, a TV movie.
