Do you think William Shatner would have been better in this role?

Nicholson is a good choice too, but he is kind of an obvious choice, where as someone like Shatner, you wouldn't expect, and therefore be pleasantly surprised, which is the advantage of casting an actor you wouldn't expect.
What do you think? -

Yeah, I'd have cast Pee-wee Herman as Abraham Lincoln instead of Daniel Day-Lewis. It would have been better because it would have been unexpected.

It certainly would have been a completely different movie with Shatner. Who would you have paired him with? Laura would have had to be recast. I can't quite picture Pfeiffer with Shatner….. Come to think of it, I was surprised at how nicely she and Nicholson worked together. Never saw that coming!
