Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Drew Carey Show

    Apex57 — 11 years ago(May 29, 2014 03:58 PM)

Basically in every episode of Drew Carey Show, there is a very loud guy laughing usually saying something like "Hey-Hey" or "Hey-ey!". If you watched this show, you know what I mean. It's hard to miss.
Who is that? Big fan, member of the crew, an actor off screen?
    Anyone knows?

I just watched the whole series. Maybe it's because I wasn't keeping my ears open for it, but I never noticed such a thing.

I noticed him in season 2 or 3, so damn annoying.
It's a shame as i was enjoying this show so much. Now i'm on the middle of season 5, i was hoping he won't be in season 6, i opened the first episode to check, and still, there's that stupid laugh in just the first few seconds.
I don't think i will be able to finish the rest of the series, i just can't ignore it at all. To me it's worse than the vuvuzela's in the 2010 fifa world cup.

I just checked a few random episodes out and I think I hear what you guys are talking about. Glad I didn't hear it before when I marathon-viewed the series because now I can't NOT notice it.

Is it as noticeable as that guy on some Night Court episodes who guffaws at every single joke?

I don't know who it is by name, but this method is common, with Night Court and anything produced by Les and Glen Charles having a laugh 'plant' in the audience. The Charles' "Taxi" and "Cheers" had James L. Brooks do it. The MTM comedies had him, too. It goes way back to when Milton Berle's mom had been in every audience and blurted out her distinctive loud laugh. Milton would sometimes use a one-liner to milk the laugh.

I always noticed this distinctive laugh also. Never bothered me though.

                  Old thread but
Thanks to the Laff channel I've been watching both Drew Carey Show and Spin City and I noticed the same "Hey! Hey!" guy in that 'audience' too.
