Why isn't this in syndication any longer?

I used to love watching this show but it just vanished like 6 years ago and has never come back. How come TV Land or Nick at Nite can't pick this up to play between the 6 to 8 hours of Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens episodes. It just seems so weird how such a great show like this has disappeared so suddenly. Sure the last couple seasons really hurt the quality of the show but I wish someone would bring it back I miss the first 6 seasons which are all hilarious.

Grounded for life was from 01 to 05. But I get what you mean why can't there be a little more variety in syndication. Everything is Big Bang theory, Raymond, KofQ's, the Office and Seinfeld on a constant loop. I like those shows but I don't need 6 hours a day of the same 5 or 6 shows while their is tons of good stuff out there to that could be shown.

If I was a billionaire, I would make a TV station for these shows and nothing else. Nothing but classic 90s sitcoms all day and night.
Just finished watching Just Shoot Me straight through and it was a much better series than I remembered. Add NewsRadio to the list too. -

Glad someone mentioned NewsRadio! It would really give me a chance to catch it on air (since I missed it so much before)!
And how about Dilbert? And the Critic? Some animated fare wouldn't be bad

News Radio was on the list of great sitcoms of all time until Phil Hartman left us. The character that Jon Lovitz had to play was one of the worst characters ever crafted for any show, ever. I don't blame Jon Lovitz. He didn't create the character. He was stuck with it. It was so bad, it just magnified the fact that Phil Hartman was no longer there. News Radio should have a much better legacy.

It wasnt a particularly original or innovative series, either. The writers room from that sitcom has not been hugely influential. In fact, of all the writers on the show, the only one youre likely to recognize is Paul Lieberstein, who played Toby on The Office and was the showrunner during its bad, later seasons. Besides Carey, the most prolific writers on the show have done very little since Drew Carey ended its run. The co-creator/head writer, Bruce Helford, is best known since for creating Charlie Sheens Anger Management, and another writer, Ed Lee (responsible for 52 episodes) was a staff writer on Are You There, Chelsea, while Les Firestein (17 episodes) is a writer/producer on FXs Partners. Thats about it.
The availability of the series has certainly played a major role in its dim legacy. The Drew Carey Show has been on syndication, but its never been hugely popular in reruns. In fact, after its initial syndication run on TBS, ION picked it up, and only aired episodes from the first five seasons. The CW aired reruns for a short spell in the late aughts to replace a cancelled block of programming, but as of now, no cable channel airs The Drew Carey Show. Moreover, because of music rights, the series cant even be found on Netflix. With the exception of the first season, its not even a show you can own on DVD. In fact, if you wanted to watch the second season or beyond of The Drew Carey Show right now, you couldnt do it legally.
Its also not a series that ever really had huge ratings. It never placed inside the top 10 for any year. It peaked at number 13 in its third and fourth seasons, and then plummeted in the ratings. By the end of the series, no one was watching it. In fact, the only reason there was even a ninth season was because ABC was contractually obligated to air one, which meant that the 26 episode 9th season were burned off over the summer, often two a night. Indeed, a decade ago, when the final season of The Drew Carey Show aired, it was seen by an average of 3.1 million viewers, which is bad even by todays rating standards. It was the 150th most popular show on the networks. I dont even remember the finale. Apparently, it was a remake of the pilot episode.
