I'm halfway through my DVD set right now, and I'm remembering why I loved this show so much. Now I hope I'm wrong here, but if I remember correctly, when Nowhere Man was cancelled, wasn't its time slot replaced by HomeBoys in Outer Space? Please God someone tell me I'm remembering wrong, because having one of the greatest shows ever cancelled was bad enough, but if it was replaced by Homeboys in Outer Space I may have to relive my original anger from ten years ago

ACK! I don't remember that and I don't want to. I looked that show up and it debuted in 1996. SO, it's possible. James Doohan was in it!! ACK!!! ACK!!!
One thing is for sure, whatever replaced 'Nowhere Man', was certainly terrible by comparison.

I've been doing that right along, as I watch these eps. I'm up to episode 12. Interesting to hear Bruce Greenwood's comments. Sounds like he didn't particularly like the show, or wasn't very "in" to it. Kind of have to listen between the lines, rather subtle about it. I'm sure he's not being too critical, since he got another paycheck for the interviews and commentaries.

Wait until you get to Zero Minus Ten. The DVD set is excellent but I'm not sure they could have picked an episode less appropriate for a commentary track from Greenwood. He doesn't seem very interested in what's going on. I mean, he's constantly being prodded by some unknown person to actually
say something
. I would have prefered another commentary track from Larry Herzog, honestly.
But it could just be that Greenwood is a more reflective than talkative person. Regardless, he's a
great
actor and he carried the series. I appreciate his honest opinion even if it's not the gushing praise I would have liked to hear from the star of one of my favorite shows.
And it was 10 years ago, after all. I can't imagine trying to talk in detail about something that happened that long ago. -

I haven't gone thru all the eps yet, but I agree about the commentaries Bruce doesn't seem to contribute much.
I've always wondered if actors/ staff, etc that are asked to do commentaries take the time to watch what they will be commenting on beforehand, just to get the ep/movie fresh in their head again, think of anecdotes, thoughts to share, etc that way when they actually record the commentary, it's not a complete blank to them and have to come up with stuff on the spot. If not behind the scenes stuff, at least you can try and get into the ep and cheer for your character and boo the enemies. -

I also got the feeling that greenwood wasn't really into the commentary. I think a lot of actors may just feel that the work should speak for itself, and are uncomfortable talking about it/themselves. Either way, he was great in the series and the series was great, so I'm happy to be watching them again!

Maybe he really wants to say, ala Shatner, "get a life"!

Uggor last month, for that matter.
I'm really enjoying Hertzog, though. Guess he's retired? IMDb shows no activity for years. Wrote one episode of '24'. He should write more.
I also say, Joel Surnow should try to get Bruce on '24'. Bruce would be excellent in almost any capacity. Bad guy? The next jerk to be sent in from "division" to take charge. He's got the look and the chops to handle most any assignment on '24'. It would be great fun.

You should check out his podcast at
www.drinkswithlarryandlauren.com
. It's very entertaining, he rambles on random topics with one of his friends in different bars and records it. He really is a cool guy.
You can even talk to him on the podcast message board (
http://s15.invisionfree.com/Drinks_With_L_and_L/
) and discuss the contents of the podcasts (or ask him any Nowhere Man questions you might have
). I spend way too much time there.
He has a blog he updates semi-regularly which you can find on that website, too. -

No, it WAS replaced with "Homeboyz". I still remember getting a letter from UPN about it. That and "Sparx, Sparx, Sparx" with Robin Givens. Thank God the Star Trek Network produced some great Emmy Award-Winning stuff on their network.
I really enjoyed watching two mediocre African-American comedies crash and burn.

I remember it being cancelled and replaced by THE BURNING ZONE, an X-files of sorts for the "disease of the week" crowd (ala HOUSE). Watched THE BURNING ZONE for a while, but it didn't stand up to the quality of NOWHERE MAN. Still madJust happy I have my DVDs

Further proof that SciFi Channel is close to worthless.
Further
proof? It's been apparent since about Day Three, plus or minus a week, that SyFy exists to make money from
putative association with
science fiction (of whatever variety), and the poseurs who run it find people who care about sf or, more generally, people who care about thinking, beneath contempt. I know there are a lot of talented people who work hard on those shows and have zero creative or business control over their show, let alone over the network. I just wish they had better job options.
SyFy is what you'd get if you took
Voyager
-level UPN, took out those few shining bits requiring original, creative thought and/or respect for the viewer, and hired a bunch of failed, barely-literate used-car salesmen to manage. No, I think
that
SyFy would be quite a bit better than the one we actually have.
