Too much Ginger hurt the film

You do know that this is based on a true story, right? Geri (who Ginger was based on) was a showgirl and a chip hustler and she married Lefty Rosenthal (who Ace was based on). The movie took many creative liberties but the early circumstances of their marriage was pretty close to reality.

If you have Audible, the abridged version of the book is less than 3 hours. It's a really easy listen and it's incredibly fascinating.
EDIT: If you DON'T already have an audible account, I can send you the audiobook for free if you PM your email address to me. -

At some point it's gratuitous and unnecessary. They could have had him obliviously unaware that she's just a reckless scumbag with 20 minutes less of her on screen. I was literally rolling my eyes midway through the movie and until it was over every time she had a scene.

I just saw Casino for the first time and I just kept hoping that the bitch would die at the end. Usually Scorsese bitches live, like in Wolf of Wallstreet. God they're annoying, and Ginger was probably the worst I've seen. So thankful she died. I remember thinking that if she survives the movie, I'll come on this board and ask for other movies like this where the bitch dies.

Yeah she played to much of a factor in the goings on in this movie. After all this time it's been out ginger really is a downer although some men do let one single female screw up their lives. It's really stupid to let a woman play you just because she's beautiful. Shes giving away your loot to a pimp and all drugged up " I take a half of one of these! A half! Haha why would you trust someone like that. I agree they should have cut her role down and written something else in place instead. Still a great movie. Goodfellas was better.

completely agreed. its a great movie, but everything about Ginger failed. She's a one dimensional character played by a mediocre actress and worst of all, you could see how it would play out from her first scene. It was only a matter of time before she betrayed Ace and they split up. Took way too long to get to an expected outcome.

I've read the book too and often wondered about how a smart man like Ace (Lefty) could let someone like Ginger (Jerri, I think how the real Mrs. Rosenthal spelled her name) just wreck him. She was very pretty. So what? The real life Mrs. Rosenthal was very pretty too, before the booze and drugs hit. So are zillions of other women in Vegas alone, who would probably have at least viewed the marriage as a cold-blooded business deal and at least been faithful, if not loved the guy enough to be faithful and sober\clean.
NO,
that's not ideal either but at least some woman who held up her end of the bargain would have been light years better than crazy Ginger.
It didn't bother me in the movie but I never understood it, when I watched the movie or read the book. Never.
