He was great in every scene! The very first shot of him has him laughing in the face of a guy sitting at the table with him extremely hard about something always cracks me up. The way he flinches while on the toilet the first time the phone rings, and his follow up beep beep beep beep beep beep after the second just kills me. The way he's sitting there not giving a damn about anything Gene Hackman is saying when Gene is trying to get him to invest in his movie is priceless. And, of course, the scenes with him sitting there in his car waiting on his driver to walk all the way around and open his door, and him snapping his fingers for the cab to move up 2 feet and come to him instead of him coming to it.

They should have had him in the sequel. He could have played a smaller role in the way deebo does in Next Friday.

Someone mentioned that on another site (that Farina stole the movie).
What's simply amazing to me is that it's hard to argue with that statement (he was so great in this) and we're saying that about a really great film with OTHER amazing performances by I dunno actors by the names of:- John Travolta
- Gene Hackman
- Rene Russo
- Danny DeVito
- James Gandolfini
- David Paymer
Incredible.
Wait a minute who am I here?

I don`t know if Farina was a "kickass" or not (well, he did kick ass very good in Crime Story), but the way he played his character in Get Shorty, was quite embarrassingly awful a lot of the time - that is, whenever he went for some broad, over-the-top comedy. He really shoulda laid off that stuff.

Much of Farina's performance isn't acting. I had the pleasure of knowing him back in Chicago circa 1970 when he was a street cop. Used to come into the back of a McDonald's where I worked to get his free coffee and such. Saw him pull over a guy in a vette in the parking lot for a traffic stop and the f-bombs were flying just like Lt. Mike Torello and/or Ray Barbone!! I do miss him and that wonderful attitude of his!

No one mentioned the scene when he's talking to his boss about Chili and has the bandage on his nose. His voice is all nasal and he has to keep sucking air loudly through his mouth because he can't breathe through his nose. RIP Dennis

One of the rare actors who I instantly smile as he appears on the screen.
It's really sad after 9 years from the OP's post, Mr. Farina is not with us anymore.
