Where is Goofy's wife?

I've read that GOOF TROOP, the series that introduced Max, has Goofy commenting that his wife is in the skies and stars, which means she is deceased. Max doesn't give any concern about lacking a mother, which gives the assumption that he never knew her. Perhaps she died in childbirth?

There is no mention of what happened to her at all in the movie, other then the facts is that Disney likes to present movies that are a single parent story, or just get rid of them all together for the main child character can have some sort of adventure that would not happen if both parents were around. But I don't remember there ever being a mention of her, or where she is at so one could guess is that she could have died, or divorced Goofy. But your guess is as good as mine as to what happened to her.

Actually, from what i heardMax was previously known as Goofy Jr. in some old Goofy shorts from the 50/60's

You know, I used to think that Junior and Max were the person when I was younger. But I don't think so anymore, because they are obviously two different people with different names and different hair colors. It is probably true though that we can see Junior as an inspiration for Max's character. Someone once described the two characters as "half brothers", and that is how I see them as well.
