I actually think his songs sound more like Prince, in the car the guitar riffs sound like something Prince would play, but in the movie he doesn't play the guitar. I conclude he is a perfect mix of Michael and Prince.

He came off as more sexual than MJ, so in that way I think more like Prince. Then again his overall look and dance moves (the backward dancing was very moonwalk) seemed more MJ esque.

To me its seems as though Powerline is an infusion of Michael Jackson, Prince, MC Hammer,

                FYI (according to Wikipedia):
The songs "I 2 I" and "Stand Out" were performed by R&B singer Tevin Campbell, and co-written by Prince

                    Vocal-wise = Michael Jackson , Guitar-wise = Prince , Dance-wise= M.C.Hammer.
Powerline's costume , on the other hand , is totally stolen from DEVO!
And by-the-by kidsGoofy , Max , Powerline , etc are DOGS! ( So , unless in your day-to-day activities you call your dog "African-American"that particular point is MOOT! )

Yes he's MJ, Prince and MC Hammer all rolled into one including Devo (I'm such an 80's kid and 90's teen with my knowledge).

Yeah I also thought it had some Prince in there but mostly Michael Jackson. Even the main song he sings has very similar lyrics and themes with MJ songs like "Leave me alone".

^^ I agree, he was definetely a combo of Prince, MJ & MC Hammer with that Devo outfit to boot.

sonicallyhe has a Prince aestheticbut his celebrity as portrayed in the movie is definitely more Michael Jacksonalong with the dance moves

I always thought it was more of a Prince, Michael, & Bobby Brown mixture

The real singer is actually Tevin Campbell.

A little over 20 years later and after the tragic death of Prince Rogers Nelson, I am reminded of how much joy this film brought in our household. Tevin Campbell, the actor that voiced Powerline worked with Prince in the film Under the Cherry Moon. Also the back-up singer Rosie Gaines who sings the harmonies and back-up in the Goofy Movie's show-stopper, "I-2-I" also performed extensively with Prince. So, I like to believe that the role is an homage to His Royal Badness, Prince.

Dunno why but Powerline always seemed androgynous to me, like the good ol' Glam Rockstars.

Didn’t Powerline have any George Michael or Boy George traits Or was that just me? I could tell he had a lot of Prince in him as well as Michael Jackson
