tuition and embarrass them like that?
They never did anything like that at the college I went to. At worst, the teacher would pull the student aside and tell them to go to the finance dept.
Other than that, pretty stupid movie.
Glad the director wasn't trying to portray every white male as being evil or anything.
Yeah, but it's a dry heat PFC. Hudson -

The only thing that would happen even remotely like that is after attendance is taken (if it is) during the fist class session, if your name wasn't called then the Prof will say to either come up to see him/her right after attendance is taken or after class. Then he/she will just ask something like: "I don't have you on the class list, are you registered for the class?" and the person will have to prove he/she is registered (many register late or were omitted by mistake) to 1) receive credit 2) attend the rest of the class sessions (although, especially in large lecture halls, many people sit in for others or even come to see a particularly popular lecturer for self edification as the Prof never takes attendance and only knows many a handful of students by name).

They never did it in my college either. But then again I am european so I have almost free tuition and an extensive scholarship program. In my college, teachers teach, they are not in charge of handling bureaucratic issues, that is with the administrative services.
When I first saw it in the movie I thought it was awful but I always struggle hard to digest you american way of things, so I just thought it was me being overly sensitivelol -

If your name was not on the registrar list, you needed to get a slip from the office to show that you signed up and paid for the class. They would let you stay for the first class, however, you could not return to attend the 2nd class without the required paperwork.

I remember starting college sometime after seeing this movie, and I was still waiting on my grant to cover my tuition the first day. I thought something similar was going to happen on my first day it didn't lol
