This film definitely needs the Dredd treatment.
Cleanse the sins of the 90's version with a gritty, modern urban setting, low-budget, no-frills realism, faithful to the books, dark

Oh I agree. We do need a version that is more violent and random and crass and crazy and anarchic like the books, but they sure as hell aren't dark and gritty!

The phrases "no-frills realism" and "faithful to the books" are simply incompatible in this case. If English was a more rational language, the OP's sentence would be grammatically impossible.

the OP is being sarcastic right? i sriously hope so, because the whole "gritty realism" thing is so overdone, no fun at all and lame! i miss the 80's and 90's crazy over the top wild sh**, they were honestly way more fun and more comic book like then anything made today/.
