I'm not trying to sound mean or anything, but just because David Thewlis is, in your opinion, unattractive doesn't mean that it is disturbing and uninteresting. Regardless that David Thewlis doesn't exactly look the best in this film, he's alright. I hope I didn't come off as too mean.

Well in real life Verlaine was a lot older than Rimbaud so that's how it was. I did find the movie disturbing to watch though too at first, because Leo does only look 15 or 16. It's very explicit.

So, your interest on the movie is based exclusively on how many bits of DiCaprio you get to see? that's depressing, anyway, I saw it years ago. And as far as I remember there's only one full frontal, and it's of David Thewlis. (You know, that guy that plays Lupin in Harry Potter).

Why are you calling David Thewlis old and ugly? He is 42 (or 43) now, so it 1995 he would have only been 32/33. That's far from being old. And David actually happens to be quite handsome, or at least I think so. He's not a real conventional look, but he's a much better actor than many of the "Hollywood" actors who are just pretty people who can read well. He was brilliant in "Naked" and in "Total Eclipse." Don't say something isn't going to be good just because you don't happen to find someone to be attractive. And to say a movie will only be interesting if you see two socially attractive people having sex, then you have a very very dim view of the world.
It's better to be pissed off, than to be pissed on. -

I agreed with the person who post before me I wasn't exactly a fan of David Thewlis but in my opinion, he looks pretty fine to me, and I mean NOW, in some sort of gentlemanly way, you can even call that charming, or good looking, although I won't exactly say 'sexy' or 'gorgeous', but definitely not ugly, and by no means, am I able to picture him as 'ugly', or 'old' in a movie made ten years ago both Leo and David are attrative people who are beautiful in their own ways, and that is what makes their sex scene more tender than ever

I find it very offensive that, for a gay sex scene to be "palatable" and acceptable for mainstream audiences, both guys have to be cute and more or less of the same age, as was the case in Brokeback Mountain. People (all people, gay or whatever) can be attracted to someone for a variety of reasons, not only physical appearance.
The way gays are idealized in many Hollywood films is in itself homophobic, because it implies that gays are just some sort of entertainment and eye candy for the audience, an ornament that isn't given the possibility of being old, ugly or unsimpathetic, or at least a complex character with a full-fledged personality.
Yes: love & sex does happen people who are old or considered unattractive judging by the mainstream beauty canon. Look a bit closer and you'll find out. -

You're NOT talking about our beloved Professor Lupinare you? If you are you need a cronological lesson as well as an eye exam!
In this movie, David is in his mid-30'snot old at alland he's is one of the most gorgeous men around.
If you're not talking about him, don't mind me

RACE IS AN ILLUSION!!! There's no such thingtake a sociology course and you'll learn that. No one is so easily classified. Can anyone even name the major races?? People cannot be divided solely on physical characteristics!
By the way, it was not uncommon for Greek men to take young boys as companions and engage in homosexual acts in ancient times. Did anyone see Alexander????? They didn't just throw that love story between Jared Leto and Colin Farrell in there for kicks. Aristotle(Christopher Plummer) is even shown talking about it with his students. That's how things were and are! People should stop getting so bent out of shape about it and accept it! -

Oh, iheartwillow, with your Humanities 101.
The term "homosexual," and the idea that it was not something you DID but something you WERE, were not invented until the late 1800s, so saying Socrates was "heterosexual" is just silly. Saying it because "he had a wife" is just stupid. But whatever. "Homosexuality" was around long before Sparta, kid. Try taking the 202 class next. -

"the only thing is about alexander is there is absolutely no proof about him being gay. . ."
Oh please! There are several of Alexander's familiars who have written accounts* that confirm him having relations with at least two men. He may not have been homosexual, but he was bisexual at the least.
*check to see if it's true if you want, but I'm right.
"If you want to be kalos kagathos [beautiful and good], throw away the rag you have on your head and come to us. But you won't be able to, for you are ruled by Hephaestion's thighs." [Diogenes of Sinope, Letters, 24] (as quoted in the movie) ++++Why would Alexander mourn the loss of someone if he were not completely in love with them? I don't think "They were just friends" works here.++++
Alexander's wistful show of enthusiasm towards the eunuch Bagoas and his dance caused the warrior king to rise to his feet cheering, which so pleased the Macedonians that they shouted out for him to kiss Bagoas, and never stopped clapping their hands and shouting till Alexander took him in his arms and kissed him warmly.[Plutarch, The Lives]
" Bagoas, a eunuch exceptional in beauty and in the very flower of boyhood, with whom Darius was intimate and with whom Alexander would later be intimate," [Curtius, VI.5.23]

And by the by, homosexuality has been around for a hell of a lot longer than any of you have mentioned. There is solid evidence that there were homosexual cavemen. And homosexuality isn't just linked to humans, several species of animals both in the wild and captivity have shown homosexual tenancies. And who the hell cares anyways? It's just sex! We should be more worried about pedophilia(sex with children)and necrophilia(sex with dead people/corpses). True?
